Tips on Avoiding Miscommunication With Your Contractor

A roof replacement project, or any home improvement project for that matter, is essentially a collaboration between you and your contractor. That’s why clear and constant communication is essential to the success of any project. But, of course, you can never rule out the risk of miscommunication, which why it’s important to keep in mind these tips while communicating with your contractor:
Put Everything in Writing
It’s never a good idea to rely on verbal agreements or instructions. After all, given how busy home improvement projects can get, it’s easy to forget the important details of a project. That’s why it’s important that you discuss all of the project’s details—particularly the project timeline and deliverables—with your contractor and put all of them in writing.
Maintain Open Communication
Don’t forget to get your contractor’s contact details and discuss with them your preferred mode of communication. For construction projects or extensive remodeling projects, we recommend visiting the work site at least once a week.
Important note: Professional contractors from roofing companies should explain the details of the project in the simplest terms possible. However, if there are details or terms that aren’t clear to you, don’t hesitate to clarify them with your contractor.
Clarify Who’s In Charge of Getting Permits
An important detail you should clarify with your contractor is the permits needed for your home improvement project. Extensive remodeling projects usually require permits, and it’s usually contractors who’ll procure the necessary permits. However, it would still be a good idea to clarify this important detail with your contractor.
Here’s a tip: It’s best to hire local contractors. Since they’re familiar with the local building codes, they’ll have an easier time acquiring the needed project permits.
